The word “hosting” does not describe just one service, but a variety of services that offer different functions to a domain. Having a site and emails, for example, are two individual services even though in the general case they come together, so most people think of them as one single service. The truth is, each domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the site for the domain name is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain name. As an illustration, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the email will be forwarded to the correct server. The reasoning behind working with separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you could have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mails by another.
Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting
With a shared website hosting plan from our company, you will be able to set up or change the A and MX records of your domain names and subdomains with ease by using our advanced Hepsia hosting CP. Editing the default records takes 2 clicks and the setup of a new record requires only a couple of more clicks, so although you may have never dealt with such matters, you'll not experience any troubles. We have an in depth help section that makes things even easier. If you would like to change your e-mail provider and you have to create several MX records in addition to the default 2, you can select their priority i.e. which record will handle your emails first when someone sends you a message. Normally the new provider will tell you what these values need to be. With our shared plans, you are going to have total control over your domain addresses and subdomains and you'll be able to manage their A and MX records very easily and at any time.
Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domain names or subdomains is extremely easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are maintained by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section committed to the DNS records of your domains. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any difficulties if you want to move your site or e-mails to another company while keeping the second service with our company. If necessary, you could also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
